Tuition Information

Tuition and fees for full-time graduate study (typically 8 credit hours) are different for residents and nonresidents with discounts for students from the western region of the continental United States (WGE/WGRP). Please see the UH Tuition Schedule for current rates.  Total cost for a year at the University of Hawaii at Manoa has been estimated on the UH Foundation's Cost of Attendance and UH Financial Aid Services' 2023-2024 Cost of Attendance which is also presented below. 

Research Assistants and Teaching Assistants (with half-time appointments) receive a 100% tuition exemption and a stipend; see details on the Graduate Division page for Graduate Assistants.  For Research Assistantships, please directly contact individual EE faculty in your areas of interest. All eligible applicants who are in need of funding are automatically considered for Teaching Assistantships; see eligibility criteria.

Tuition Status Exemption:  The University of Hawaii Board of Regents allows the following non-resident categories to pay the in-state or a lowered tuition rate:

  • Native Hawaiian
  • Pacific Institutional
  • Active Duty Military
  • Veteran
  • Hawaii Based Guard/Reserve
  • UH Faculty/Staff
