Biomedical Engineering
Biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary discipline that combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences for healthcare purposes such as diagnosis, monitoring, prevention, and therapy. The BioMedical Engineering (BME) group develops (1) biomedical devices, equipment and technology, and studies (2) biomedical optics, (3) molecular, cell and tissue engineering, and (4) neuroscience and neuroengineering. Our BME applications include animal tracking and monitoring, cellular sensors, drug delivery and biosensing, lung anomaly detection, musculoskeletal monitoring, sleep pattern monitoring, single-cell assembly, manipulation, and analysis using microfluidic systems, traumatic brain injury prevention/detection.
BME research at UHM EE is developing new biomedical devices and technology that will continue to improve health care treatment.
