Advising

Procedure

Students must meet with their faculty advisors during the advising period.  Check the COE Advising page for current college advising guidelines and this FAQ for commonly asked registration questions.

Steps:

  1. Find your faculty advisor at COE Online Advising site
  2. Contact your faculty advisor and schedule a meeting.  Don't wait until the last minute.  Students should sign up for advising before the advising period.
  3. When you plan to register for an x96 project course, complete the process to get a CRN (see below).
  4. Fill out the online COE Advising form with your current enrolled courses and tentative courses for next semester and their pre-requisites.
  5. Review your academic progress with the checksheet and Star Pathway Guidance.  Prepare to discuss with your advisor.
  6. Consider future career goals and opportunities for internships and full-time employment.  Prepare to discuss with your advisor.
  7. Discuss your plans with your assigned advisor and obtain their approval of your COE Advising form

Course Planning

Students should understand the graduation requirements. It is recommended that students plan their courses at least two years into the future. The following are useful for planning:

x96 Project Course Registration

If you plan to register for EE x96 (i.e., 296, 396 or 496) or ENGR x96 (296, 396)  then you will need to sign up with a faculty project advisor before registration.

  1. Find a faculty project advisor.  You can either email a faculty in the area of interest or look at the list of available projects
  2. Meet with and gain approval and course registration number (CRN) from the faculty member that would sponsor and advise you for the project
  3. Sign the Assumption of Risk and Release form for the desired x96 course
