Thesis: Image and Image Sequence Compression using the 2-D Gabor Transform - This project investigates the design of coders based on the Gabor transform, a transform widely believed to model many aspects of human spatial vision. Cases at the extremes of the quality/compression range are being considered. The goal in the case of still images is to reproduce the image with high visual quality, although compression may be modest. For image sequences, however, very high compression is sought, to enable the transmission of video over channels with bandwidths as low as 10kbits/sec (e.g., cellular telephone).
