Thesis: Space-Variant & Spatiotemporal-Variant Filtering - The filtering process typically applied to an image or image sequence is global in nature. The filter affects all regions of the image or sequence in the same way. It is often desirable to be able to apply a particular filter to a specific region in an image or sequence. The Gabor Transform provides a localized frequency representation of the image or sequence, allowing separate filters to be applied to different regions. Using the localized spectral information provided by the Gabor Transform it is also possible to design a procedure to filter regions based on the region spectral content. This approach is especially promising for enhancement applications, such as noise reduction and deblurring.
