Basis Selection - Spatial
- Uniform Spacing: In the spatial domain basis functions will be repeated
at various locations. For this implementation we will assume no a priori information
about the signal being represented and will space the functions uniformily across the
x-axis D pixels (or samples) apart.
- Uniform
: Along with uniform spacing, we will
require the variance of the Gaussian to be invariant to the spatial location of the
basis functions.
- The actual values of D and
are chosen for a particular implementation. In the rest of this presentation D is set to
8 pixels and
to 3 pixels. This relationship, shown
below, is application dependent. Some of the effects of this particular choice will be
highlighted at the end of this presentation when discussing an image coding application.
