Course Information

Meetings

• Section 002: We will have an organization meeting on Thursday, 22 Jan at 12:00 pm on POST 214 to determine the best time for regular weekly meetings for the rest of the semester.
• Due to the number of people and conflicting schedules, we will have TWO meeting times for this semester. Everyone should be able to make ONE of these meetings every week. The meeting times are:
  • Section 002A: Mondays at 12:30 to 1:30 pm
  • Section 002B: Tuesdays at 12:00 to 1:00 pm
  All meeting will be in POST 214.

Week 10 (12/13 Apr 04)

  • We will do the How Stuff Works presentations next week in both sections.
  • We will do Academic advising the following week

Week 9 (30 Mar/5 Apr 04)

• Assignment
  • Chapter 2: problems 11 (one FULL page is enough), 12 and 14.
  • Don't forget, we will do your "How Stuff Works" presentations next meeting.
  • Remember, for section B, we will NOT meet next week (6 Apr), but meet next the following week (13 Apr).

Week 8 (16/29 Mar 04)

• Assignment
  • Chapter 2: problems 9, 10 and 15.
  • Instead of Chapter 2: problem 18 this semester, I'd like to open up the possibilities for doing a small research project. In teams we will pick in class today, pick one of the items listed at the web site How Stuff Works and prepare a brief (15 minute) oral presentation for the class. You will present your findings in class after Spring Break.

Week 7 (9/15 Mar 04)

  • Prepare for lecture discussion

• Assignment
  • Instead of Chapter 2: problem 18 this semester, I'd like to open up the possibilities for doing a small research project. In teams we will pick in class today, pick one of the items listed at the web site How Stuff Works and prepare a brief (15 minute) oral presentation for the class. You will present your findings in class after Spring Break.

Week 5 (24 Feb/1 Mar 04)

  • Don't forget, you are still working on Chapter 3: problem 16 for next week. We will discuss your papers then.
  • You are also working on your team presentations for Chapter 3: problem 13 which we will do next week.
  • Also remember, I will collect your journals for review next week.

Week 4 (17/23 Feb 04)

• Study Smart
• Next week I will show a video. Please try to show up a little early, since the video runs about an hour.

  • Sections 3.4 to 3.6
• Assignment
  • Chapter 3: problems 13 and 14. We will pick teams today and divide the topics to do these problems. Each team will prepare a short ppt presentation on your centers to present in 2 weeks.
  • Chapter 3: problem 16. This is another long term (2 week) individual problem. Begin it this week and we will discuss your papers in 2 weeks.
  • I will also collect your journals for review in 2 weeks, so be sure to bring them to class that day.

Week 3 (9 or 10 Feb 04)

  • Chapter 3: problems 1, 2, and 3
  • Continue working on Chapter 1, problem 14 from last week.

Week 2 (2 or 3 Feb)

• Getting a good start

  • Sections 1.6 to 1.12
• Assignment
  • Chapter 1: problems 14, 15 and 16. For problem 14, write your list in your journal and try to implement 2 of these for the next 2 weeks. We will discuss what you did to "study smart" and how you found these things to work in class in 2 weeks.
  • Make sure you have access to your wiliki account (your login id and a working password (test it :-)) by the time you come to class next week.
