Course Objectives

The objectives of Engr 100 are as follows:

Course Procedures and Policies

The purpose of this course is to introduce you to engineering, inform you about the engineering process and the different disciplines, motivate you to work hard and give you some tools to help you succeed.
The course is 1 credit with the Cr/NC grading option. As a Rule of Thumb, earning a Cr is equivalent to at least a C in a course. Your grade will be determined primarily by your attendance class and study sessions, participation in class activities, and completion of weekly reading and assignments, as well as three quizzes on the readings given through the semester You will also participate in a design project and a volunteer activity during the semester.
Weekly readings and several questions from the text will be assigned below. You should do the reading BEFORE the class meeting each week. Answers to assigned questions should be written up in a .doc file and submitted by uploading the file to the MyUH portal (login to http://myuhportal.hawaii.edu). On your My Tools tab, click on Engr 100 and then Files. You will see a folder for each section, and in there a folder named for your UH login ID. Upload your files to your folder. Please name your files for the week of the assignment (e.g. your first assignment will be named week2.doc). These files will NOT be posted to the rest of the class, but will be reviewed by the instructors before class. Your files are due to be submitted by 5 pm on the WEDNESDAY before the class session (to give us a change to review them before class). I suggest that you keep a copy of the files you submit in a folder for this class on your computer (or flash drive) for your record.
The Monday and Wednesday class meetings will be used for tutoring/study sessions as follows:
We will be doing a design problem in assigned teams with the help of some of the student professinal society members. More details to follow.
