- Section 001
- After out first meeting, it looks like we will have to split the section
into two subsections and have two meeting times per week. Beginning on
6 Sep, our meeting times will be:
- Section 001A: Wednesdays, 1:30-2:20 pm, POST 214
- Section 001B: Wednesdays, 2:30-3:20 pm, POST 214
- Our meeting times are currently TBA. We will not meet during the first
week of the semester, but will have an initial organizing meeting on
Tuesday, 29 Aug at 4:30 pm in POST 214 to compare schedules and find
a permanent meeting time for the rest of the semester.

- Will be meeting with Josh Kaakua (kaakua.eng.hawaii.edu) on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Fridays 1:30-2:20 PM. Contact Josh for further information
about meetings and requirements.

- We will discuss your "prepare for lectures" experiences.

- This is a variation on Chapter 3: problems 13 and 14.
We will divide up into teams
and pick centers
for each team to investigate. Each team will prepare a short
presentation on what they found out at our meeting next week (on 8 Nov).

- Keep working on your Chapter 3: problem 16 and write it up
in your email journal this week.. We will discuss your findings next week.
Week 9 (18 Oct 06)

- How are we doing?

- GO TO CAREER DAY on Friday.
Visit at least 3 company booths at the fair and talk to the
recruiters there. Find out:
- what their company does,
- what kinds of engineering jobs their company provides,
- what they look for in engineering graduates.
Bring whatever fliers/brochures/free stuff you collect at the
fair to our meeting next week and share what you found out.
- Also, try to attend at least one of the Info Sessions
schedule over the next few days and share what you find out next week.
- Chapter 3: problems 9, 12 and 18. Answer these in your email journal.
- Chapter 3: problem 16. This is another 2 week assignment. Begin practicing
some of these techniques now and submit your paper with your email journal
on 3 Nov. We will discuss your papers that session.

- The Engineering Design Process
- We will discuss your reactions to the Spider video.
- We will also discuss your "study smart" experiences over the past few weeks
- We will then talk about the engineering design process, and
break up into teams and select some common iten in the room to
research, investigate the issues related to the item, and
come up with specifications.
Each team will
prepare a 5 minute presentation on their product. You will
give your presentations in 2 weeks.

and we will discuss it next week.

- Be prepared to speak briefly in class next week on the results
of your "study smart" (chap 1, prob 14) for the past 2 weeks.

please try to be there on time (the video runs almost an hour).

Week 3 (6 Sep 06)

- Getting a good start

- Chapter 1: problems 11, 14 and 15. For problem 14, write your list
in your email journal and try to implement 2 of these for the next 2 weeks.
We will discuss what you did to "study smart" and how you found
these things to work in class in 2 weeks.
