Meetings

• We are combining the two sections and have tentatively set our meeting times to be Thursdays from 3:00-4:15 in POST 214. Our first meeting will be on Thursday, 1 Sep.
• By popular demand, we changed our meeting time to Thursdays from 1:30 to 2:45 in POST 214.

Week 10 (3 Nov 05)

• Discussions
  • We will discuss your "prepare for lectures" experiences.

• Assignment
  • Chapter 4: problems 2, 5 and 8.
  • Keep working on your centers presentations for next week (be sure to actually VISIT the centers you are investigating).
  • Keep working on your "Engr 100 Grand Challenge" presentations for next week also.

Week 9 (27 Oct 05)

  • We will discuss your experiences at Career Day
  • We will also discuss your progress on your "Engr 100 Grand Challenge" progress.

• Assignment
  • Chapter 3: problems 13 and 14. We will divide up into teams and pick centers for each team to investigate. Each team will prepare a short presentation on what they found out at our meeting in 2 weeks (on 10 Nov).
  • Keep working on your Chapter 3: problem 16 and write it up in your email journal this week.. We will discuss your findings next week.
  • Keep working on your "Engr 100 Grand Challenge". Your presentations will be in 2 weeks.

Week 8 (20 Oct 05)

• Raytheon Visitors
• Readings
  • Sections 3.4 to 3.6
• Assignment
  • GO TO CAREER DAY tomorrow. Visit at least 3 company booths at the fair and talk to the recruiters there. Find out what kinds of engineering jobs their company provides and what they look for in engineering graduates. Bring whatever fliers/brochures/free stuff you collect at the fair to our meeting next week and share what you found out.
  • Chapter 3: problems 9, 12 and 18. Answer these in your email journal.
  • Chapter 3: problem 16. This is another 2 week assignment. Begin practicing some of these techniques now and submit your paper with your email journal on 3 Nov. We will discuss your papers that session.
  • Keep working on on your "Engr 100 Grand Challenge" (aka "Escape from POST 214") design ideas. We will hold a design review to see what your teams are thinking about next week.

Week 5 (29 Sep 05)

• The Engineering Design Process
  • We will discuss your "study smart" experiences over the past few weeks
  • We will then talk about the engineering design process, and break up into teams to research past expererinces from the Darpa Grand Challenge. Each team will pick two entries from last years competition and prepare a 10 minute presentation on their approach. You will give your presentations in 2 weeks.

  • Chapter 2: problems 11 (1-2 pages is enough), 14 and 23.

Week 4 (22 Sep 05)

• Meeting with NHSEMP
• Readings
  • Sections 2.4 to 2.5

  • Chapter 2: problems 8, 9 and 10.
  • Check out this web site and we will talk about it next week.

Week 3 (15 Sep 05)

  • I will show a video in class and we will discuss it afterward.

  • Be prepared to speak briefly in class next week on the results of your "study smart" (chap 1, prob 14) for the past 2 weeks. We will discuss these when we meet on 29 Sep.

Week 2 (8 Sep 05)

  • Chapter 1: problems 11, 14 and 15. For problem 14, write your list in your email journal and try to implement 2 of these for the next 2 weeks. We will discuss what you did to "study smart" and how you found these things to work in class in 2 weeks.
