2 9 Sep 02 What is Engineering?
  • What are ASCE, IEEE, and ASME?
  • Using your wiliki and ITS accounts (make sure you have your login ids and passowrds for both of these acocunts available before class).
  • Sections 2.1 to 2.3
  • Section 5.1
  • Chapter 2: problems 1, 3 and 4.
  • Chapter 2: problems 6 and 7. Do these problems in groups of 2 or 3 and be prepared to present your product ideas in class in 2 weeks.
  • Chapter 5: problem 1.






3 16 Sep 02 What is Engineering?

  • Chapter 1: problems 14, 15 and 16. For problem 14, write your list in your journal and try to implement 2 of these for the next 2 weeks. We will discuss what you did to "study smart" and how you found these things to work. in class in 2 weeks.
  • Have you started Chapter 2 problems 6 and 7? We will be discussing these next week.






4 23 Sep 02 Engineering can be fun

  • Instead of Chapter 2: problem 18 this semester, I'd like to open up the possibilities for doing a small research project. In teams we will pick in class today, pick one of the items listed at the web site How Stuff Works and prepare a brief (15 minute) oral presentation for the class. You will present your findings in class in 2 weeks on 7 Oct.






5 30 Sep 02 Study Smart

  • Chapter 3: problem 16. This is another long term (2 week) problem. Begin it this week and we will discuss it in 2 weeks.






7 14 Oct 02
  • Discussion of Chapter 3 problems 13 and 14.

  • Chapter 3: problems 15 and 18
  • Go to the Engineering Career Day on Friday, 18 Oct. and check out companies there. Pick at least 2 companies that interest you and talk to the recruiter there. Find out what the company does, and what kind of engineering opportunities are available with them. Write up what you find in your journal and we will discuss next week.
