The Exponential Function

As an example of one numeric technique, consider the function:

            x
    f(x) = e

We can compute the value of this function for any x using a Taylor series expansion:

                 1      2      3            n
      x         x      x      x            x
     e   = 1 + ---- + ---- + ---- + ... + ---- + ...
                1!     2!     3!           n!

This is an inifinite series; we can get the exact value of the result if we compute and add an infinite number of terms.
